About Me

Hi! I’m Mike Henton. I’m a book publicist and consultant with more than a decade of experience in publishing.

For nearly six years, I was a publicist at Shambhala Publications, specializing in nonfiction books on self-help, psychology, mindfulness, Buddhism, and various other topics. I promoted the works of numerous renowned authors, including Joan Halifax, Pema Chödrön, the Dalai Lama, Peter Singer, Ken Wilber, Anne Waldman, Kino MacGregor, David Hinton, Norman Fischer, Maureen Murdock, Susanna Barkataki, and more.

Throughout my career, I’ve secured publicity coverage from media outlets such as The Washington Post, CNN, Psychology Today, Publishers Weekly, Lion’s Roar, Tricycle, Spirituality & Health, Ten Percent Happier, Oprah Daily, Book Riot, LitHub, and others.

While at Shambhala, I supported 30+ new releases each year, including bestsellers and category standouts. In addition to securing media coverage, I helped shape authors’ overall promotional strategy and guided them through the publication process.

Before becoming a publicist, I was an Associate Editor at Wiley, acquiring books on investing and personal finance. While those subject areas are no longer my focus, my time as an acquisitions editor expanded my knowledge of the publishing industry.

Currently, I live in northern Colorado with my fiancée and our cat, Cordelia. I look forward to hearing about your book! You can reach me at mhentonpublicity@gmail.com.

My current projects include Stoic Empathy by Shermin Kruse (out now) and Dying to Live by Andy Chaleff (Sept. 10).

“Thank you for your excellent publicity support and guidance. As a first-time author, I found it very helpful to have you as a resource regarding the publicity process and the publishing business in general.”

David Chernikoff, author of Life, Part Two

“I have been so grateful for your kindness, your quick response, your attention to detail, and, most importantly, your unflagging support of my work.”

“You did such a great job with my launch, and I continue to do interviews and podcasts that you have forwarded to me.”

Maureen Murdock, author of Mythmaking
